Generator Base Tanks: Save Space, Enhance Safety

ISCO's UL-2085 Listing Means Fire Safety Leader Manufactured On Site

Fuel tanks with a crucial fire-safety certification are now built right into the base of many ISCO-produced enclosures-and all components of these products are now manufactured right here at ISCO.

Our customers have always valued the excellent quality and workmanship that goes into enclosures made by International Supply Company. We pursued and recently achieved a listing allowing us to manufacture UL-2085 base tanks because we wanted to provide the same excellent quality and workmanship to base tanks, while simplifying the procurement process for our customers and saving them valuable real estate.  Every customer values fire safety, and there is no generator base tank that outperforms those with the UL-2085 classification.

Likewise, no customer wants to devote more space than is necessary to its generator and enclosure. This is where ISCO's ability to manufacture the UL-2085 base tank along with the main enclosure is a crucial advantage. Unlike more traditional arrangements in which the tank is freestanding and above-ground, surrounded by concrete walls, ISCO-manufactured UL-2085 base tanks are mounted under the generator within the base.

This highly effective configuration consists of two tanks designed and used together. They include an inner steel tank built to UL-142 specifications and surrounded on all sides by lightweight concrete, and an outer tank that is also built to UL-142 specifications.

While UL-2085 tanks have been available on ISCO-manufactured enclosures since the classification was established, our ability to manufacture them at our facility instead of procuring them elsewhere adds value to our overall process for our customers.

"It simplifies the engineering process for our customers," said ISCO engineering manager John Watkins. "We can ensure faster turnaround and better cost control. We don't have to rely on a sub vendor’s production schedule - and all his sub vendor’s production schedules - to get the job done. And the customer receives a complete product."

A strong product, as well. Primary construction materials include structural I-beam members, making generator base tanks from ISCO among the strongest tanks available anywhere.
